Who am I?

Emma Louise. I'm 27 years old and I live in rural Wales with my son.

How did I get started in photography?

I've always taken pictures. I went through countless 35mm cameras when I was a kid and loved sending off my films to be processed. I then moved with the times and progressed on to using digital cameras.

I got involved with photo manipulation and the use of stock photography. One day I couldn't find an image I wanted to use, so I decided to go out and take the shot myself. I found that I really enjoyed it and in March 2009, I invested in a Canon 450D and enrolled myself on a photography course - the rest is history.

Do I digitally manipulate my images?

Sometimes. I tend to use a bit of texture layering, some HDR and I still create digital art using other stock images.

What subjects do I prefer?

I love anything on the strange side. I'm very open-minded and have a tendency to shoot artistic nude, fetish and some horror & macabre stuff. I like anything that will get a reaction - good or bad.

That said, I'm comfortable shooting absolutely anything and everything! From portraits to weddings.

Which photographers have inspired me?

Robert Mapplethorpe - his works are vast, provocative and powerful.

Helmut Newton - Newton's vision is fuelled by sex, status, power and, above all, voyeurism.

Eric Kroll - Fetish photographer and editor with an incredible diversity of subject matter.

What is the most rewarding part of photography?

Being behind the camera is like being in another world. It is where I am most at ease. I get to meet so many wonderful people and have made some lifelong friends too. I suppose being able to picture something in your mind and collaborate with models and other photographers to make that vision a reality is one of the most rewarding parts.

What part of photography do I dislike the most?

When people don't turn up to booked shoots without any prior notice.

What advice would I give a beginner?

Stick at it. Ask questions. Practice makes perfect as they say. Even the most talented photographers out there had to start somewhere. Photography is an expensive hobby/career choice and you have to be prepared for a LOT of hard work and dedication with perhaps minimal feedback.

You also have to be prepared for rejection. It's a highly competitive industry. Most of all, be true to yourself. Find your own style and develop it. Don't let others push you around but always be kind, courteous and understanding.

Make sure you have fun. Be professional but not anal. You have to be a people person too.

What do I think of my own work?

It's different. It's my own and I'm very proud of the work I've done so far. For me, photography is a huge learning curve and I am still very much in the learning process. There are some images I've taken where I think I could have done better - but rather than spend too much time worrying - I put it down to experience and crack on with it.

I am my own worst critic a lot of the time and some might say I border a little on perfectionism when it comes to editing/post-processing. This is probably true in some instances but not really all the time.

My work is sort of a reflection of who I am. I can be strange and obscure. Whacky and wonderful, and I have inner fears and insecurities. Everyday life and the struggles we face are a huge inspiration to me.

I was always told to "face my fears" and in a sense that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm scared of clowns yet find myself getting super excited about a clown shoot that I have in the pipeline.. it's things like that that define who I am and my working style.

..apparently

The porn police are out and about again  It makes me laugh really. Especially at people's inability to distinguish between artistic nude and pornography

I'll have you know, that whilst I have shot some erotica in the past - none of those images ever make it to deviantart.

One of my images titled "Shadows & Light" has been removed. It was reported to the powers that be as Explicit Pornography (I f*cking wish!!)

Anyway - rather than removing webcam images of some attention-seeking slapper with a dildo stuck up her arse or similar (trust me - look and you shall find) or of some spotty teenager holding a less than average sized erect member in his hand and dubbing it "art" - the report stated that my deviation "contained a depiction of a penis which is considered to be "erect". " and so it was removed because "depictions of erections are not allowed" and there for it was a "violation of policy"

Bullshit

I know the admins are only doing their job. I just wish they'd leave genuine artists alone and focus on the horny teenagers that think sitting in front of their webcam with their penis or breasts out is artistic. If you want shit loads of page views - then that's the thing to do.  But this is an art community for fuck sake :shakefist:

I shall continue to submit my artistic nude photography and they will be tagged as mature (like they are already) - no doubt some sad individual who despises all art with an inch of flesh in it will report them. I swear these people leave the "view mature content" thing on purely so they can have a look and then press report. Sad bastards is all I can say.

Yes - I have a potty mouth. No - it's not very lady like. But then I've not once ever said I was a lady. This is my journal and I can write what the hell I like. The day that DA decides to restrict the content of our journals is the day I'll close down all of my accounts (including my two stock ones) and fuck this place off entirely.

/Rant over

Polite Notice

My gallery has a variety of images; some of which are considered mature content and will be marked as such. Please, if you find mature content offensive - don't pass comment - just move along.

I am in no mind to discuss or debate the subject matter of my images. Neither am I here to receive lectures from prudish, uppety or childish and immature people. Save your stupid comments for someone else.

That said - none of my images are fap material either, so please don't bother with comments like "hot!" "nice cock" etc.

I am a female photographer so please don't refer to me as "dude". None of my images are deemed to be stock. No exceptions. If you want stock images - I have plenty over in my stock account or use the browse button in the Resources & Stock galleries.

Please respect me as an artist and we'll get along just fine. Rub me up the wrong way however and suffer the consequences.

Please also note that I have operated under a number of photography names - this explains the various watermarks on my images. I'm not an art thief and if you fancy having a go at accusing me of being one - please be prepared to follow through any accusations :aww:

Hi.
Thank you for joining the Strickly-Black-White group.
We take this opportunity to ask all our members to read the "about us" widget on our page, to get rid of any confusion about our submission rules.
It is a growing problem that art is sent to the wrong folder, so we are trying to get rid of this problem.

Thanks and have a nice day/night

Teb
